Mr STRANGE

Jean-Marie Gitard, alias Mr Strange, is a French artist born in 1964 who lives in the south of France.

After studying Art History and a fairly classic approach as a plastic artist, Mr Strange, very largely inspired by surrealism and carried by a curious and inventive personality, gradually moved away from classical painting, to be interested in polymorphic creations, mixing painting and sculpture.

His artistic evolution leads him to try the digital medium, which allows him to deepen his inner universe and take a look at the world around him without constraint or limit, he himself calls this practice the “photo-manipulation”.

Hybridization, logic of the absurd, subversion, are the artist’s preferred starting points. From birth to death, from the individual to society, he spares no one.

Mr Strange handles surrealism with a certain derision, and offers a thought on the world that is sometimes poetic, sometimes caustic but always sharp.

“I am not spontaneous, I work on images that I transform, mix, associate, in order to create a surreality.

I feel closer to the painter than to the photographer. My favorite artists are Edward Hopper, Giorgio de Chirico, Grant Wood, Maurizio Cattelan, René Magritte, Ron Mueck and Gregory Crewdson. ”
